KUALA LUMPUR: The American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (Amcham) board has elected Karen Albertson president.

Albertson, who has been managing director of 3M Malaysia Sdn Bhd since 2006, said she looked forward to continuing the excellent work done by former president Vince Leusner and would seek to enhance Amcham's presence in Malaysia.

“The United States is one of Malaysia's biggest investors, with a two-way trade of approximately US$44bil. This allows Amcham to consistently nurture business collaboration in Malaysia by committing to issues related to its members,” she said in a statement.

According to Albertson, Amcham believes an exciting year lies ahead with the expected completion of the US-Malaysia free trade agreement (FTA) which will further facilitate and promote bilateral trade, investment flow and the continued economic development of Malaysia.

“The FTA will provide increased international exposure for Malaysia, leading to greater inflow of foreign direct investment and job creation,” she said.

Albertson has been an active volunteer throughout her career, particularly in advocating issues of innovation, leadership and education.

She is also currently a board member of the International School of Kuala Lumpur.
