Iowa State University Malaysian Alumni Association
Iowa State University President Gregory Geoffroy
will visit ISU alumni in Malaysia on
November 12, 2008
For the first time in its history of 151 years, the president of Iowa State University will visit its alumni in Malaysia. President Gregory Geoffroy will arrive in Kuala Lumpur on November 11, 2008. One of the main purposes of this trip is to strengthen the ties between Malaysian ISU alumni and their alma mater.
With this visit, President Geoffroy has come all the way to their homeland to thank the Malaysian alumni for the many ways in which they have contributed to and enriched the life of the university for over a long period of time. Malaysian students have been attending ISU since the 1950s resulting with an estimated total of over 2000 alumni today. While at ISU, Malaysian students not only have excelled in their scholastic pursuits but also actively participated in a variety of extracurricular activities as well as engaged in community service. Most have returned home with a first rate university education and many pleasant memories of their stay in Ames, Iowa.
During his visit in Malaysia, President Geoffroy takes pride in acknowledging the many areas in which Malaysian alumni have applied their ISU education to the nation-building effort in Malaysia. ISU graduates in Malaysia have made significant contributions to Malaysia life in many fields of endeavor -- in public service, higher education, research, medicine, business, construction, and the arts.
The highlight of the Malaysian visit will be an Alumni Dinner when President Geoffroy will join Malaysian alumni in celebrating a major milestone in the life of their alma mater – ISU’s 150 anniversary. He will also officially inaugurate the formation of the Malaysia Iowa State University Alumni Society during the dinner. This important event will take place on November 12 at 7:00 PM at the Palace of the Golden Horses. The theme of this gathering of ISU alumni is “Celebrating Cyclone Pride – 150 Years of Tradition.”
Please make a special effort to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime experience and come share your Cyclone pride. Let us show President Geoffrey what Malaysian hospitality and welcome is all about! This could perhaps be the most important get-together for Malaysian ISU alumni. Also please pass this information on to every ISU alumni you know.

I urge each and everyone of you to not only make a special effort to attend, but also to bring a fellow Cyclone with you. I have been informed by ISU alumni in Penang and Johor Baru of their plans to be part of this celebration. As many are coming, plese make sure you don’t miss out on being part of this event, and seeing old friends again and renewing friendships.
I will be accompanying President Geoffroy on this trip and look forward to seeing many of you and to renew friendships of many years.

It is great to know that ISU and UPM will be signing an MOU in this coming November. As an ISU graduate who is doing postgrad studies in UPM, I am sure any further collaboration between ISU and UPM will bring more benefits to both univerisities and the people of the countries. Go Cyclones!
